Serving prisoner handed 12-year extended sentence for attack on inmate

A serving prisoner will spend another 12 years behind bars after he seriously assaulted a fellow inmate at HMP Featherstone.
James Moore, 35, of HMP Dovegate, was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday (22 July), after being found guilty of Section 18 - grievous bodily harm with intent.
This will run consecutively to a nine-year extended sentence imposed at Bristol Crown Court in January 2023 after Moore pleaded guilty to the same offence.
Moore attacked a 31-year-old prisoner at HMP Featherstone in October 2024 by throwing a kettle of hot water over him whilst he was sat on a chair.
The victim suffered significant burns to his body, which were treated in hospital.
Prison crime investigator Alice Holmes said: “Violence has no place in our communities and that includes in our prisons.
“We are pleased with the sentenced imposed, as it reflects the severity and seriousness of the offence.
“It also recognises the danger that Moore continues to present to society.”
