An officer has been dismissed without notice following a gross misconduct hearing.
An investigation by our Anti-Corruption Unit found that PC David Henzell sexually harassed a colleague, made inappropriate comments of a sexual nature to a different colleague and he had slept whilst on duty.
A four-day gross misconduct hearing, which concluded on Thursday 5 March, found that PC Henzell’s actions amounted to gross misconduct. The officer had breached the standards of authority, respect and courtesy and duties and responsibilities. He also breached discreditable conduct.
PC Henzell has been placed on the College of Policing’s Barred List, which prevents him from working in policing and other law enforcement bodies again.
Deputy Chief Constable Caroline Marsh said: “PC Henzell’s behaviour was unacceptable and a breach of the standards that the public rightly expect from a police officer. We are committed to rooting out officers who behave in this way.
“We have delivered ‘Know the Line’ training to our officers, which highlights the standard of behaviour expected of officers, focusing heavily on sexual harassment, the abuse of position for sexual purposes and maintaining professional boundaries.
“Our reporting mechanisms are working, and I would like to thank the victims for coming forward.”
