Book your BikeSafe place as motorcycle season begins

Following the launch of a new motorcycle safety campaign for Staffordshire, we are encouraging riders to consider their safety on the roads and book a place on a BikeSafe course now the 2026 dates have been released.

BikeSafe gives riders the opportunity to build their riding skills, as well as learn more about road safety, with the aim of reducing the number of motorcycle-related deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

The day-long workshop starts with a morning classroom session covering topics, including motorcycle control, cornering, overtaking, filtering, junctions, hazard awareness and general rider attitude.

This is followed by an assessed ride with a police motorcyclist looking at a variety of elements on A and B roads, as well as some motorway sections.

The sessions, which cost £79, run on the following Sundays at our force headquarters on Weston Road, Stafford: 8 March, 5 April, 26 April, 10 May, 31 May, 7 June.

PC Barry Joynson, from our road crime and road harm prevention teams, said: “We are proud to be one of 38 police forces in the country to be part of the BikeSafe initiative.

“We work with motorcycle riders in a relaxed environment to raise awareness of the importance and value of taking part in accredited post-test training to help them upskill and improve the safety of themselves and other road users.

“This year, the launch of the BikeSafe course is especially relevant as it coincides with the launch of our new motorcycle safety campaign, which will encourage riders of all experience levels to consider their observation, manoeuvres, speed and riding style to improve their safety on the roads.

“These are all things we cover on the BikeSafe course, so if you ride, or someone in your family does, we’d encourage you to take a look and book a place as our limited spaces always book up fast.”

According to BikeSafe, every day in the UK there are 60 serious motorcycle-related road traffic accidents; 16 involve life-changing injuries, with at least one daily fatality.

We launched our new motorcycle safety campaign yesterday (Monday 2 March), so follow our social media channels, or take a look at our website for more information and tips to help improve your safety on the roads.
