A man who inflicted a campaign of abuse on his partner has been jailed.
Owen Meredith, 27, of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has been sentenced to two-years-and-one-month behind bars at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday 23 January after he admitted two counts of engaging in controlling / coercive behaviour, three counts of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, three counts of intentional strangulation and one count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress.

The abuse came to light in November 2022 when the victim bravely came forward.
Meredith had strangled her on numerous occasions and punched her.
He was quickly arrested and questioned in custody. When he was released, he tried logging into her social media accounts and sent her two personalised cards. He also emailed her.
After we secured the evidence needed to charge him, Meredith was taken to court.
Now, he’s been jailed and served with an indefinite restraining order, stopping him from contacting the victim.
Sergeant Georgia Hughes, from the Newcastle-under-Lyme local policing team, said: “Meredith’s actions were both physically and emotionally damaging to the victim, who has shown immense courage in coming forward and trying to seek help.
“We are determined to support victims of domestic abuse and to bring perpetrators to justice for their incredibly damaging crimes.”
