Former doctor appears in court after being charged with 45 sexual offences

Former practicing doctor Nathaniel John Spencer, 38, of Birmingham, has appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (Tuesday 20 January) after he was charged with 45 sexual offences last month.

The 45 charges are: 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 counts of assault by penetration, nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, three counts of assault a child under 13 by penetration and one count of attempted assault by penetration.

The charges relate to 22 child victims (when the offences took place) and 16 adult victims.

It follows a complex investigation by our Public Protection Unit into sexual offences at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, in Stoke-on-Trent, and Russells Hall Hospital, in Dudley.

Spencer is due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 20 February.
