We are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Stafford.
A man in his 60s remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital following the assault, which took place on a public footpath through Stafford Castle golf course, at around 7pm last night (Thursday 14 May).
Specialist officers are continuing to support the victim’s family.
The suspect is described as a man aged in his mid to late 20s, potentially of Eastern European heritage, of an average build, wearing dark clothing.
We are maintaining a significant police presence in the area while our investigation continues at pace.
Detectives are completing extensive CCTV and house-to-house enquiries while drones and the National Police Air Service helicopter are supporting the activities in the area.
We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Castlefields area between 5pm and 8pm yesterday.
A dedicated portal has been created for people to submit relevant information: Public Portal.
To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Chief Inspector Saqib Butt, our Stafford Borough local policing team commander, said: “We understand this is a highly worrying time for our communities and we are doing all we can to identify and apprehend the suspect.
“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area before or after the assault should contact us as soon as possible.
“We would like to thank everyone who has provided information so far and we will continue our house-to-house enquiries today.
“We will be carrying out robust proactive patrols locally throughout the day to help reassure residents that we are there for them.”
