A boy from Stoke-on-Trent has been presented with a specialist mobility trike thanks to funds raised during a police boxing show back in May.
Nine-year-old Alfie Foster, who has a diagnosis of autism and other conditions, received his specialist trike on Wednesday 3 July, which was funded by the Blue Glove Boxing Academy show.
Coaches from the Blue Glove Boxing Academy (BGBA), along with neighbourhood officers, were present for the handover of the trike, which BGBA Coach, PC Colin Gay, said was ‘an absolute privilege to be part of’.
He said: “It was genuinely one of the most touching experiences and an absolute privilege to be a part of. For me personally, both a police officer and a parent, it meant so much to be able to change the life of a child for the better.”
Alfie’s mum, Ashlea, said that Alfie had previously been unable to go out and play with his friends due to his disability but now, thanks to the trike, he is part of a bike riding group on the estate.
Alfie and his family can also now go out for walks together as the trike has a free wheel and steering option that allows him to be guided if Alfie is unable to pedal.
On presentation day, Alfie also got the opportunity to sit in police car, something he enjoyed as his late grandfather was a PCSO in another force.
