A man has been jailed for an assault on two women in Stoke-on-Trent last year.
James Williams, aged 30, of Stoke-on-Trent, was handed a 14-month sentence on Wednesday (27 June) at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after being convicted of two counts of assault which happened in the early hours of 15 July 2024.
The court heard how Williams had initially denied his involvement, but officers were able to source CCTV footage showing him acting as the aggressor in the assault at around 1.30am on Market Place in Burslem.
One of the victims sustained two fractured ribs as well as a laceration to her spleen and a kidney in the assault.
He also threw a cup of liquid over the victims and made verbal threats.
Williams went on to admit his offending in court and was handed a 14-month sentence for the wounding charge along with a two-month concurrent sentence for the assault by beating charge.
Following sentencing, deputy commander for Stoke-on-Trent north local policing team, Inspector Victoria Ison, said: “This was a horrendous assault that not only physically but also mentally traumatised the victims who showed great courage in reporting Williams for his offending.
“I’m pleased that the judge handed Williams a custodial sentence for this attack.”
