We’re urging communities in Cannock to share information over vehicle theft and suspicious activity as we continue to tighten the net on thieves in the area.
As part of #OpVala, officers have been working proactively to investigate vehicle crime reports and trends in-order to act robustly against those involved in this type of crime.
On Monday (20 July), we arrested a man after flooding the Rugeley area with officers following a report of an attempted Land Rover theft in Etching Hill. The suspect tried to drive off in another car after being spooked but was caught by officers.
The car he was using to drive off was also found to be stolen.
A 29-year-old man, from Walsall, was arrested on suspicion of attempted vehicle theft, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop and drug driving.
He was later bailed with conditions while our investigation continues.
Chief Inspector Matt Walker, from the Cannock local policing team, said: “We’re working hard every day to make a long-term impact on vehicle crime in Cannock and Rugeley.
“We will continue to police the area with additional resources and specialist departments that are best equipped to respond to vehicle theft reports.
“Local officers pay close attention to all vehicle crime reports, including attempted thefts and suspicious activity.
“We recognise how valuable your information has been and your alerts, all of which have helped direct our activities and help us build intelligence to act against those involved.
“I can assure local communities that more arrests and enforcement will be coming against those responsible, both in Cannock, Rugeley and the wider Staffordshire area.”
