Officers in south Staffordshire are welcoming two members of the Royal Military Police to their ranks as part of a special placement.
The two officers, who will be based at the station in Codsall, begin their placement on 14 October and will be part of the Staffordshire force until mid-December.
Their placement marks the third of its type across the force this year and reiterates our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant first signed by Chief Constable Chris Noble in August 2022.
The officers are vetted and trained in the same way as regular police officers but bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience from their previous roles.
These latest officers, Cpl Rachael Cooke and LCpl Jarmen Langton are currently based at Parson Barracks in Donnington as part of the 174 Provost Company, 1st Regiment Royal Military Police and predominantly police the Shropshire area. They also spend a lot of time policing overseas where the British Military have a presence.
Sid Mulholland, Leadership and Organisational Development Partner, at Staffordshire Police, said: “I think the placement program is a fantastic initiative which brings together two uniformed services with wide ranging experiences that can only enhance the knowledge and skills of both organisations.
“As a 33-year veteran of the Armed Forces and now a member of the Staffordshire Police family myself, I think it is great to see both of these professional organisations working together to provide an excellent service to the local communities.”
Staffordshire Police joined the placement programme following the success of a pilot scheme in North Yorkshire, where military and civilian police officers collaborated to keep the public safe, strengthening the relationship between the army and the force locally.
Chief Inspector Tim Norbury, south Staffordshire local policing team commander, said; “We are really proud to be supporting both serving and former members of the Armed Forces and I am delighted that Cpl Cooke and L.Cpl Langton are now working with our policing family and partners in south Staffordshire.
“This will support our RMP colleagues in their professional development and provide them with the opportunity to use their own skills and experience to support our aim of providing an outstanding service to the communities of south Staffordshire.”
