Emergency services were called to a report of a concern for welfare at Espleys Yard in Stafford at around 6.20pm.
During the incident, a man in his 50s discharged his firearm, resulting in him being seriously injured. Despite the best efforts of medical staff at the scene, he sadly died a short while later.
Officers secured the scene and we do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public. We are not looking for anyone else as part of this investigation.
The man’s next of kin have been informed.
