We are appealing for information after two men were arrested and a cannabis grow was found following a large fight in Tamworth.
Officers were called to Dent Street just before 6am this morning (Sunday 21 January). A big group of men were seen fighting in the street. Some of them had weapons.
A man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital after suffering injuries in the incident. He remains in a stable condition at this time and his injuries aren’t thought to be life threatening.
We sent officers to the area to search for the suspects. A large cannabis grow was then found at an address on the same street. Work is ongoing to clear the building and destroy the plants this afternoon.
A 26-year-old man, from London, and a 22-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They are being questioned about what happened in custody.
Two cars were also found abandoned at the scene and were heavily damaged. They were seized for forensic examination.
Officers cordoned off the area and are carrying out enquiries to find out more about the incident. A machete, baseball bat and a hockey stick were later found nearby on West Street.
Detective Sergeant Paul Stafford, from CID, said: “This incident was seen by a large number of people and has understandably caused concern in the local community.
“Officers will be visible in the area today and carrying out door-to-door enquiries to find out more about what happened. We are looking over CCTV, speaking to witnesses and carrying out forensic examination of the area as part of our investigation.
“I’d urge anyone who saw what happened or those with any information that could help us to come forward. We’re particularly interested in any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the area at the time.
“I’d also like to thank those who have already been in touch and to residents that have engaged with officers in the area throughout today.”
