Attempted motorbike theft ends with three arrests

We have arrested three people following an attempted motorbike theft in North Staffordshire.

In the early hours of this morning (3 November), three men were seen looking at a motorbike which was parked at an address in Werrington.

All three were dressed in black and were wearing balaclavas.

The group were noticed by residents and made off without taking the motorbike in question. All three of them left after getting onto another motorbike which they had used to get to the area.

We quickly sent officers to the scene who followed the bike.

Officers used a range of tactics and ended up stinging the motorbike, deflating both tyres and causing all three people to make off on foot.

Following a search alongside our colleagues from the National Police Air Service (NPAS), three people were later found and arrested on suspicion of numerous offences:

• An 18-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft
• A 16-year-old boy, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, vehicle theft and failing to stop for an officer when required
• A 26-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft

All three are being questioned about what happened in custody today.

Chief Inspector Mark Barlow, from the Moorlands local policing team, said: “Officers worked quickly and effectively to act on this report and detain a number of suspects.

“Vehicle theft can have a profound impact on people, businesses and livelihoods. We will go after those responsible and will continue to take a proactive approach against thieves who seek to steal from our communities.”
