Tackling anti-social behaviour and clearing litter among the activities in Tunstall’s week of action

A community action week which includes revamping facilities, tackling litter and fly-tipping, and targeting drug-dealing and anti-social behaviour, has been launched in Tunstall today (28 June).

The initiative was launched by Stoke-on-Trent City Council leader, Abi Brown, and Stoke North Neighbourhood Policing Team’s area commander Chief Inspector Simon Brownsword.

They will be working with partner agencies from housing, charity and other sectors with events and activities to promote crime prevention, health and well-being, public safety and environmental awareness in the area.

There will be advice on tenancy issues and grants from Housing, while members of the Highways team will be repairing potholes and repairing and cleaning gulleys and painting lines and railings.

There will be advice and support for those wanting to improve garden areas and develop homes or empty homes. Experts will also be on hand to assist those who are vulnerable and need support or advice with addiction or debt or homelessness.

There are plenty of opportunities for local residents to meet police officers and discuss any concerns they have about their community or crime-related issues and advice. The mobile police station will be located from 9am to 3pm at Jasper Square on Monday, Asda on Tuesday, Tower Square on Wednesday, Alexander Retail Park on Thursday, and the market on Friday.

A number of law enforcement operations will also be taking place across the week so residents can expect to see an increased police presence, tackling issues such as anti-social behaviour, theft, driving offences and vehicle crime.

Specialist teams will also be on hand to offer support and advice about drugs, alcohol, employment and housing and there will be community litter picks with volunteers.

Chief Inspector Brownsword, who began his role as senior officer for Stoke North last week, said: “We’re looking forward to continuing our work with partners who will be available all week to offer advice and support on a huge range of topics.

“We hope to see as many people as possible and make a positive difference to the community in Tunstall.”

Stoke-on-Trent City Council leader Abi Brown said: “This is the latest in a number of weeks of action and activities in the heart of communities right across the city. It’s about bringing partners and a range of services together to make a real difference to residents and improve the local area. There will be a lot of activities taking place in Tunstall throughout the week to give really targeted support to those who may need it, so please say ‘hello’ and meet the teams, we are here to help.”
