Police get on their bikes to fundraise during crimefighting initiative

Neighbourhood police officers are getting on their bike during a crime-fighting initiative to raise money for a north Staffordshire charity.

To coincide with the world’s biggest cycle race officers are pedalling for pounds at shopping centres across the Potteries this week during Staffordshire Police’s Business Crime week of action.

Monies raised during the Tour de Alice will go to funding the work of the Alice charity, which supports disadvantaged and vulnerable families in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Officers from Stoke North Neighbourhood Policing Team – including area commander Simon Brownsword – will be pedalling from noon to 2pm each day from Tuesday 13 July to Friday 16 July.

On Tuesday they’ll be at Asda, Tunstall; on Wednesday at Tesco in Hanley; Thursday at Morrisons in Festival Park, and Friday at the Potteries Centre.

Sergeant Sam Sigley, of Stoke North NPT, said: “Come along and say hello to us. We’re about raising awareness of how to tackle crimes affecting business and offering advice on safety and security.

“We’re also delighted to be fitting in some fundraising too and hope it encourages people to stop and chat, and raises money for a great charity that makes a difference to those less fortunate than us.”
