Detectives are carrying out a number of enquiries following a spate of burglaries over the last month involving high-value, detached homes across Staffordshire.
A total of eight separate incidents have been reported between December and today. Suspects have been targeting homes that back onto open land, likely under the assumption that high-value goods will be inside.
Most recently, we responded to reports of a break-in at a home near Shobnall Road, Burton-on-Trent. It happened at some point between 26 December and 28 December.
The offenders took jewellery and other items from inside.
Expensive wines, designer clothing, shoes and handbags have been taken from different incidents.
They have all happened during hours of darkness, normally after 6pm, and all of the homeowners have either been on holiday or out of the house at the time.
On one occasion, a group of men were disturbed by someone inside a house and made off empty handed.
Detectives from our criminal investigations department (CID) are investigating these incidents and are urging those living in similar homes to make sure they stay vigilant.
Detective Sergeant Alun Evans, from CID, said: “We know the impact that burglary can have on victims and I can assure local communities we’re progressing a number of enquiries as part of our investigation into the spate of recent reports.
“It’s vital that homeowners don’t leave signs behind that they’re away for significant periods of time, because it can be attractive to burglars.
“Please bear in mind who can see your social media posts when you’re on holiday, particularly if your accounts aren’t private, and make sure to keep your windows and doors locked if you’re leaving the house for any length of time.
“Where possible, consider installing CCTV and security lighting around your home, and make sure that valuables are out of sight from windows and doors.”
