We are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was raped by a man in Burton-on-Trent.
Detectives have been working around the clock to investigate after we received the report at 12.50am on New Year’s Day (Wednesday 1 January).
The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was approached by two men while she was walking on Market Place. They took her down an alleyway near the Royal Oak pub and one of the men raped her.
Specialist officers have been deployed to support the girl at this time.
Officers have been carrying out a number of enquiries in the area as part of our investigation.
Detective Inspector Shelley Burns, from our child protection team (CPT), said: “Robust efforts are going into this investigation and I can assure the local community that officers are working extremely hard to support the victim and find out more information.
“We know that a number of people came to the girl’s aid after the incident took place and we’re keen to speak to those we haven’t already about any information they may have, particularly those who were in Royal Oak pub at the time.
“Anyone who was in the area at the time or those with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage with any information is urged to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
One of the suspects had a comb over hairstyle with the sides shaved and some facial hair. The second suspect was wearing glasses, a black beanie, a red hoodie and had a moustache.
