Two men have been arrested after a stolen car was stopped by our road crime team (RCT) in Stoke-on-Trent.
Officers spotted the Volkswagen Golf driving northbound on the M6 and followed it. The driver didn’t stop and carried on driving between junction 15 and junction 16.
The car was stung and brought to a stop. The passenger tried to run away but was quickly caught.
Checks confirmed the car had been stolen in a burglary in recent days.
A 26-year-old man, from Kent, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and vehicle theft.
He has been recalled to prison.
A 23-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, vehicle theft, dangerous driving, drug driving, driving while disqualified and failing to stop.
He has since been bailed with conditions while our enquiries continue.
Since our RCT was launched in October last year, they have seized more than 90 stolen vehicles, carried out more than 3,900 traffic stops, conducted more than 1,900 roadside tests for drink and drugs and seized an estimated £2.2-million worth of criminal assets.
We’re going after those committing offences and putting others at risk on our roads in Staffordshire every single day.
