We are investigating the death of a woman in Burton-upon-Trent and are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
We were called to a report of a dead body at around 9:55am this morning (6 April) in a property on Byrkley Street. A woman in her 50s was found and, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, there was nothing that could be done to save her.
The death is currently being treated as unexplained whilst detectives work to establish the circumstances leading up to her death. A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is helping us with our enquiries. He remains in custody for questioning.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
A scene remains at the property whilst further enquiries are made.
Local residents will see an increased presence in the area this evening to provide reassurance and to help gather information. House to house enquiries are being completed in the local area to help find out more about what happened.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact 101 quoting incident number 181 of 6 April. Alternatively, for guaranteed anonymity, contact Crimestoppers.
