A tenant has been evicted from a flat in Newcastle-under-Lyme following persistent reports of drug use and anti-social behaviour (ASB).
Action was taken at the address on Fletcher Bank on Monday (16 September) by property owners Aspire Housing association.
Since February, problem solving officers from our Newcastle local policing team (LPT) have been working to help the tenant.
However, due to non-engagement and further reports from people feeling unsafe, they have now been told to leave.
Newcastle LPT problem solving lead, PC Heather Bolam, said: “The address was adopted onto problem solving in February this year following long-standing issues and concerns raised by members of the public around drug-related anti-social behaviour.
“We know the distress and misery that can be caused by anti-social behaviour in our communities and residents can be assured we will use every tool at our disposal to put a stop to it.
“People who persist in this type of behaviour should recognise that there are consequences and we hope the action taken here by the property owners will serve as a deterrent to others.”
James Fullford, head of neighbourhoods at Aspire Housing, said: “We are grateful that we have been able to reach a solution in this matter, and we value the efforts made to support us over the past few months by the Newcastle local policing team as part of our close working partnership.
"We would like to thank everyone involved in helping us to address this issue, especially the customers who approached us to raise concerns around anti-social behaviour.
“Although eviction is the last resort, we take anti-social behaviour very seriously at Aspire Housing. We encourage our customers to get in touch with us if they're experiencing any problems in their community."
Problem-solving teams, introduced as part of our ongoing commitment to neighbourhood policing, are targeting persistent offenders and reducing high-impact crime, such as ASB across Staffordshire.
It has seen our officers work more closely with communities and partners, such as councils, mental health services and housing associations, to meet local priorities and problem solve deep-rooted issues that really matter to our residents.
The initiative was rolled out force-wide following a successful trial in Newcastle, where officers developed an analytical tool, or problem solving dashboard, which makes it easier for us to identify problem locations and share knowledge.
