Detectives are continuing to investigate reports of gunshots in Stoke-on-Trent.
It happened at 3.35pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 September) when someone reported hearing a number of loud bangs near Winchester Avenue in Bentilee.
A large police cordon has been in place since the first call to carry out a thorough search of the area. Firearms officers and a police helicopter were also involved.
No-one was injured.
A large police presence is expected to remain in the area as we continue to progress all lines of enquiry and reassure the local community. A wider CCTV trawl and forensic examination will continue in the area today (Wednesday 4 September).
Stoke-on-Trent Superintendent Dave Wain, said: “I’d like to reassure local residents and businesses that specialist detectives are working around the clock to investigate what happened and progress their enquiries at pace.
“We take reports like this extremely seriously and will continue to do everything possible to thoroughly investigate the circumstances and take decisive action against anyone responsible. Firearms have no place on our streets.
“It’s vital that anyone who was in the area yesterday who might have seen what happened or has any information gets in touch with us as soon as possible.”
