Man jailed for three years after admitting manslaughter

A man has been jailed for three years after he admitted manslaughter following the death of a man in Stoke-on-Trent.
Wilson Pereira, 19, of Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday (2 October) after he previously admitted the offence at an earlier hearing.
On Sunday 7 May, Pereira punched 55-year-old Neil Gaskell following an exchange of words on Millrise Road, Milton, Stoke-on-Trent.
Gaskell suffered a serious head injury.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical staff, Neil was pronounced dead on Tuesday 23 May.
Pereira was charged with the offence and taken to court, where he later pleaded guilty.
Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Hannan, from the force’s Major Investigations Department, said: “The circumstances surrounding this case are tragic in every sense and I know the outcome has been devastating for all those involved.”
“Our thoughts and condolences are very much with Neil’s family at this difficult time.”
