Arrests made and community concerns aired in week of action

The results from our week of action with partners in Newcastle-under-Lyme are in!

We’re here to make sure everyone feels safe, tackle anti-social behaviour, and provide support and advice to the community.

Working alongside our partner agencies, including Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, Newcastle-under-Lyme BID, and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, this week officers:

• Arrested four people on suspicion of a number of offences, including possession of a bladed article, burglary, theft, and interfering with a vehicle
• Spoke to 71 people regarding issues in their community and logged their concerns
• Stopped and searched six people in relation to drugs and weapons
• Arrested a man for failing to attend court
• Stopped a vehicle with £200,000-worth of cannabis in the boot
• Helped to find a missing person and return them to their family
• Worked with trading standards officers to seize more than 100 illegal vapes and counterfeit cigarettes from a business in the town

Chief Inspector Darren McGrath, from the Newcastle local policing team (LPT), said: “The week of action by police and partner agencies has resulted in some fantastic results.

“We have seen increased levels of engagement, offenders arrested and taken off the streets, and vulnerable people safeguarded.

“We have police ready to respond to the town 24 hours a day, seven days a week, however, we have been able to provide additional resources for the school holidays, which typically see an increase in footfall.

“It is our ambition to repeat similar operations throughout the borough.”
