Update after fire at derelict nightclub in Hanley

We have started to search a part of a derelict nightclub that was on fire on Brockley Square, off Trinity Street, Hanley.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have extinguished the fire, that started in the early hours on Tuesday (12 March).

Forensics officers and a specialist search and rescue team have started to search inside. This is expected to take a number of days.

A 63-year-old man, of no fixed address, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life, has been released with no further action.

We are particularly keen to hear from any taxi drivers that may have been in the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
