A man has been jailed after he attacked and threw his dog out of a car.
Tyler Steele, 28, of Berryhill, Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to 18 weeks’ imprisonment at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Monday (10 June) after he pleaded guilty to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
On 2 May 2023, Steele threw his dog across the road from a parked car in Berryhill, Stoke-on-Trent and was filmed slapping his dog four times on Proudlock Avenue, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, on 7 July.
Steele was also disqualified from owning, keeping, participating in keeping animals or being in control or able to influence the way they are kept for five years.
Sergeant Chris Gifford, of Stoke North local policing team, said: “I’m pleased with the sentence given to Steele and that he has been disqualified from keeping animals for five years. This case sends a clear message that we will take action against animal cruelty.”
A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: “This was a very upsetting case and we were glad to be of assistance to Staffordshire Police - strengthening our partnership working.
“We are grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering as we strive to make the world a better place for every kind.”
