We’re investigating an incident in Newcastle-under-Lyme where people reported hearing gunshots.
At 3.10pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 11 June), we got a call saying that suspected gunshots were heard near a school on Rutland Road in Kidsgrove.
As a precaution, the school went into lockdown whilst officers carried out enquiries in the area.
The school later released the pupils after we gave them an update.
Following enquiries, we established that an incident happened on Lamb Street involving an altercation between a group of three men and a car.
During the altercation, a loud bang was heard, prompting people to report gunshots to us.
The three men appeared to be arguing with the driver of the car, who drove away after it happened. The three men also left the area on foot.
We carried out a thorough search of the area and have been speaking to people to find out more about what happened.
No-one has been reported injured and no evidence of any viable firearm being used has been found.
Anyone with any information, particularly CCTV, dashcam or doorbell from the area at the time are asked to get in touch with us. Call 101, quoting incident 455 of 11 June, or message us using Live Chat on our website.
To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
