Motorists urged to drive carefully following collisions

We are urging motorists to drive carefully and stay safe on our roads this summer following recent collisions in the Moorlands.

We have received a number of calls to collision involving motorbikes, with the latest incident happening on Sunday 23 June.

The motorbike left the road and the passenger suffered chest and abdominal injuries.

We’re are calling on motorists to take extra care when on the roads and make sure they’re doing everything they can to stay safe, including:

• Sticking to the speed limits
• Checking blind spots
• Being aware of hazards
• Staying visible and alert
• Not drinking and driving
• Wear protecting clothing and a helmet

Sergeant Richard Toplass from our local policing team in the Staffordshire Moorlands, said: “Over the past few days, we’ve experienced some warmer weather and we’re advising motorists to make sure they take extra precaution on the roads to protect themselves and others.

“We have attended a number of road traffic collisions recently involving motorbikes that have come off the roads and we’re urging drivers to keep themselves, passengers and other members of the public safe.”

Tragically, 45 people lost their lives in road collisions across our county in 2023. We’re committed to proactively policing our roads and taking action against those putting other motorists at risk.

Recently, we launched our Look Again campaign in a bid to reduce the number of serious and fatal collisions in Staffordshire. We arrested 70 people on suspicion of a number of driving offences over the course of the campaign.
