Two drug dealers have been sentenced after proactive officers found class A drugs, cash and mobile phones in Tamworth.
Nicola Casey, 31, of Stonydelph, Tamworth, was jailed for three years and nine months at Stafford Crown Court on Friday (19 January) after previously pleading guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply a class A drug (crack cocaine) and two counts of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A (heroin).
A second woman, Ellie Selvey, 21, from Walsall, received a 20-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months, after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A (cocaine) and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A (heroin) at an earlier hearing.
Casey was stopped and searched by officers on Silver Link Road, Glascote, on Friday 2 July, 2021. A single wrap of heroin was found on the floor nearby, along with seven packets of crack cocaine in Casey’s closed fist.
We then entered a property on Carisbrooke, Glascote. Officers found Selvey sat on a sofa holding a mobile phone, with drugs, scales, a small amount of cannabis resin and a large knife on a table nearby. More drugs and £610 cash were discovered in Selvey’s tracksuit pockets.
Both women were released under investigation and later charged with possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine.
Casey was involved in a second incident on Tuesday 31 July, last year. Officers stopped a grey Audi Q5 she was driving just after 12.30pm in Stonydelph, Tamworth, and found a phone, £640 in cash and a wrap of heroin. Later in custody she tried to discard a Kinder Surprise egg container with 16 deals of heroin and a lump of cocaine inside.
Detective Sergeant Jon Bradbury said: “We are pleased that two drug dealers have been dealt with and harmful substances have been taken off the streets of Staffordshire. We will continue to proactively identify, investigate and prosecute all those intent on causing harm to our communities by doing the same.”
The sentencing follows our ongoing commitment to proactively target serious and organised crime across Staffordshire.
We launched Operation Target in May last year and have been working with local police forces to disrupt and pursue criminals who plan, organise and commit serious criminal offences across the county, including drug supply, illegal firearms, knife crime, human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
