A man has admitted raping and attempting to rape a woman in Stoke-on-Trent.
Lukasz Wesolowski, 42, of Maidstone, Kent, pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of attempted rape at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday (Monday 19 February).
Wesolowki committed these offences between December 2010 and May 2011 and the victim came forward and reported them to us in January 2022.
The victim said: “My hope is that it would reassure more women like me to have the confidence and faith and to come forward and not to be afraid to speak up for themselves. I wanted to let the public know that there are some exceptional people working in policing that have a lot of care in their heart for women like me.”
Detective Constable Jayne Green, from the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Team, said: “Firstly I would like to commend the victim for the courage and bravery she has shown throughout this case.
“I know that being faced with giving evidence in court can be a daunting prospect, but thanks to her continued bravery and the evidence gathered throughout the investigation, the defendant has accepted his actions in relation to these serious offences.
“I hope that this conviction can provide reassurance and act as a reminder to anyone suffering the effects and impact of sexual abuse, that we will be committed to supporting victims and securing justice in convicting offenders such as Wesolowski.”
Wesolowski will be sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 9 April.
