A woman who befriended a vulnerable victim for the purpose of stealing his belongings in Wombourne has been jailed.
Shervonne Jackson, 30, of no-fixed-address, met the victim inside the Co-op on School Road, Wombourne, in May. The victim was followed around the store by Jackson.
She asked him if he’d like any help getting back home, which he agreed to.
Then, Jackson went inside, asked for a drink to distract the man, and ransacked his bedroom to find a mobile phone. She took it with her when she left.
Once it was reported to us, local officers from south Staffordshire tracked her down after looking over CCTV. She was questioned in custody and charged with theft.
Jackson appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 14 June and pleaded guilty to theft. She was sentenced to a-year-and-a-half in prison at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday (13 August).
PC Thomas Evans, who currently works in the south Staffordshire local policing team and dealt with this investigation, said: “Thanks to help from the local community and our colleagues from West Midlands Police, we were able to quickly identify Jackson and take action against her.
“She evidently targeted the victim due to his vulnerabilities and took advantage of him for her own personal gain.
“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to compile all of the evidence to take her to court quickly and secure a conviction against an offender who used dishonesty and deception to commit crimes in our community.”
