A senior investigating officer has been appointed to carry out a post-incident investigation into the disorder in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday (3 August) as officers continue to reassure the local community.
Ten people have been arrested as part of our response to pockets of disorder that took place in the city following a pre-planned protest. They remain in custody while we continue to investigate what happened.
Nationally, a number of police forces also responded proactively to further protests, with a number of arrests made.
We’re continuing to closely review footage gathered by our police drone and wider videos shared on social media to identify those involved and support further police action.
We also recognise that some edited footage shared on social media has gained traction and impacted on public confidence. We’re committed to fully investigating all of the material available, addressing any lessons to be learnt with proportionate action and continuing to reassure people in Stoke-on-Trent.
If you have any concerns about what happened yesterday or have information about those engaging in violence and disorder, please get in touch by calling 101 or using Live Chat on our website.
If you’d like to report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
