A man has been jailed for nine years for two knife-point robberies in Burton.
Jabrel Mumin, 46, of Burton, was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment at Stafford Crown Court on 6 August after he pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and two counts of possession of a knife in a public place just before his trial was due to start.
On 9 September 2022, Mumin went into WH Smith, Coopers Square in Burton. He followed one of the members of staff in the shop behind the counter with a knife and ordered them to empty the till.
On 12 December 2022, he went into Coral Bookmakers on Waterloo Street, Burton. He stole a quantity of cash by producing a knife and ordering a member of staff to open the safe.
Indefinite restraining orders have also been granted to protect both victims.
DC Jones, of CID South, said: “Mumin showed a complete lack of remorse throughout. He used the stolen cash to buy expensive clothing and drugs.
“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to secure justice for the victims and we don’t underestimate the impact that incidents like this can have on people.”
