Two people have been arrested after a stolen car was stung and stopped in Stoke-on-Trent.
At 7.50am on Wednesday morning (24 April), we got a call saying that a Vauxhall Astra had been taken from a driveway near Boulton Street in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Two young men had been trying different door handles in the area before getting inside the car and driving away.
We spotted the car on Dividy Road in Stoke-on-Trent shortly after. The driver failed to stop and drove away.
We worked closely with our colleagues at the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) to follow it. They set up a stinger which burst three tyres on the stolen car.
Those inside carried on driving the car before ditching it and running away near the A50. One of them was found in the undergrowth and a second was found after we searched an address.
An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Stoke-on-Trent, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving, drug driving and driving a car without the owner’s consent.
They have since been released on conditional police bail while enquiries continue.
We’re working proactively to target vehicle thieves across all ten local policing teams in Staffordshire.
We know the devastating effect this type of crime can have on people, businesses and livelihoods. Officers are committed to working with road policing teams, neighbouring forces and local communities to target those responsible and protect people’s belongings.
