A man has been jailed for more than a decade for non-recent child sex offences in Burton-on-Trent after we launched an investigation into him.
Christopher Walkman, aged 64, of Swadlincote, Derbyshire, committed the offences more than 20 years ago before the survivor bravely came forward and told us what happened.
He was questioned by officers in August 2020. We started compiling evidence of his crimes and later charged him with the offences.
Walkman appeared at Stafford Crown Court on 16 January and was found guilty following a trial of seven counts of indecent assault of a girl under the age of 16.
At Wolverhampton Crown Court on Wednesday (24 April), he was sentenced to 12 years in prison with an extended license period of one year.
Detective Constable Scott Martin, who investigated the case, said: “Without the bravery and support of the survivor, this conviction would not have been possible and no one would have known about Walkman’s crimes.
“I hope this serves as a message to all survivors of sexual offences that they will be listened to and heard by specialist officers who are passionate about stopping those responsible.”
We are committed to working alongside our partners to deliver the toughest enforcement available to those found guilty of sexual crimes. We’ve already undertaken a significant amount of work in this area and we’re committed to continuing to make progress and supporting those affected by it.
