We are reassuring the public after reports of a man seen with a handgun in Normacot today (Friday 13 October).
Firearms officers carried out a thorough area search after we received a single report of a man with a firearm on Chaplain Road, at around 10am.
No threats were made, no weapon was found and we were unable to locate anyone matching the description. We advised staff from Alexandra Infants School, on Spring Road, to keep children inside for a short time while we investigated.
Officers remained on scene to provide reassurance to members of the public and reviewed CCTV from the area.
