A teenager has been arrested after fireworks were thrown at buildings and vehicles in Tunstall.
Detectives are gathering footage of incidents that occurred between 7.20pm and 8.15pm in the vicinity of the Sneyd Arms Hotel, on Tower Square, High Street, and Woodland Street, on Tuesday 31 October.
We received multiple reports from the public that members of a large group of youths wearing balaclavas and hoods were throwing fireworks into the Sneyd Arms Hotel and at passing vehicles.
Officers then located a group of around 20 youths on the car park of Matalan in Woodland Street. Fireworks were thrown at a patrol car before members of the group ran off in different directions. No officers were injured.
A 15-year-old boy, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He is currently on bail.
We continue to make local inquiries, in order to trace those involved, and are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time to find out more about what happened, in particular those who might have dashcam or CCTV footage that could help us.
Inspector Hayley Eaton, from Stoke North LPT, said: “We would like to reiterate that those who use fireworks for this purpose will be targeted and are likely to face arrest, fines and even prosecution.
“We take these reports very seriously and do not accept people putting themselves and others in danger. Local officers are continuing to speak to people about what happened and will investigate any reports relating to misuse of fireworks as robustly as possible.”
