We are continuing to support the family of a woman who died following an incident in Stoke-on-Trent.
We were called to Kingsdale Close, Meir, just before 5pm on 18 May after receiving reports of an assault.
Officers found 46-year-old Agnieszka Hadjuga, from Meir, inside, as well as a man in his 30s.
Whist officers were arresting the man downstairs, Agnieszka fell down the stairs. She was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly died a short time later.
Although it was first deemed to be unexplained, Agnieszka’s death is not currently being treated as suspicious. We do not believe the assault to be linked to her death.
A 38-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was originally arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been released on conditional police bail while inquiries continue.
We made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as police were present.
We are continuing enquiries on behalf of HM Coroner to further establish the circumstances around her death.
