Two men have been arrested after a number of stolen items were found in the back of a lorry in Stafford.
We were called to the M6 services at 2.20am this morning (Thursday 5 January) following reports of a group of men loading items into the back of an HGV.
They had slashed the trailer of the lorry whilst it was parked up and were loading boxes of sports shorts onto another lorry when they were spotted. They drove away with the items and are believed to have slashed other trailers in the area at the time.
Officers from our dedicated vehicle theft team, Op Bormus, were sent to look for the lorry alongside colleagues from the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG).
It was found near junction 15 and we sent in Police Dog Vixen (pictured below) to challenge those inside – leading to the discovery of the stolen items.
Two men, aged 25 and 19, from West Yorkshire, were arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle.
They remain in custody while inquiries continue.
