We are appealing for information following a fatal collision on the A5, Watling Street, last night (21 December).
It happened between the M6 Toll entrance roundabout and the Turf roundabout, on the eastbound carriageway at around 11.20pm. A Kia and a black BMW collided.
Officers, supported by colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service, responded to the collision.
Sadly, a woman in her 60s, who was inside the Kia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers at this difficult time.
A man in his 70s, who was also inside the Kia, has been taken to hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening at this time.
A man in his 20s, who was in the BMW, was taken to hospital and is currently in a critical condition.
A 32-year-old man, from Cannock, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The road has since been re-opened following a period of disruption in the early hours.
