A man has been jailed after admitting multiple charges of non-recent sexual assault in Staffordshire.
Derek Harrison, aged 81, of Meadows Road, Kidsgrove, was sentenced to seven years behind bars at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday 13 September after pleading guilty to eight counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two charges of indecent assault and one charge of making indecent photographs of a child.
Harrison was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
He was interviewed in August 2020 after an allegation of sexual assault was reported to the force.
The offences took place between 1977 and 2015.
PC Sophie Crooks, the officer in charge of the case, said: “We understand how hard it can be to come forward and report these offences, but it is vital in bringing those responsible to justice.
“I would like to commend the victims for their bravery and would like to encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse to report it to police, where you can speak to specialist officers in confidence.
“We remain committed to supporting victims of sexual abuse and apprehending those responsible for these acts.”
