Volunteer officers have carried out a successful speed-check operation in Stoke-on-Trent which saw one man arrested last weekend.
The special officers, who work as part of Stoke-on-Trent South Neighbourhood Policing Team, set up a checkpoint between Duke Street and Victoria Place, along the A50 in Fenton on Saturday (4 June).
The aim of the operation was to deter speeding motorists on the 30mph stretch and prevent any serious collisions or traffic-related incidents.
The checkpoint was in operation from 4.30pm to 9.30pm throughout the day, with officers stopping more than 200 vehicles during this period.
Of these, a number of speeding offences were identified, with other drivers stopped for illegal licence plates.
As a result of the activity, three vehicles were seized by officers and one man was arrested.
Special Sergeant Andrew Ellerton of Staffordshire Police, said: “While many drivers were law-abiding, it was shocking how many vehicles officers found cause to pull-over during the operation.
“Speeding presents a danger to all road users including pedestrians.
“Area speed limits are in place for a reason, so it’s important to remember it is indeed a limit and not a target.
“Drink-driving also poses a serious threat and you could face strict penalties if caught, including an endorsement on your licence, loss of your licence, a hefty fine and, for the most serious offences, time spent in prison and a criminal record.”
