A man has been jailed after officers seized class A drugs in a stop-and-search in Tamworth.
Adam Hawthorne, 33, of Tarrant, off Birds Bush Road, Belgrave, Tamworth, was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Friday (15 July) to two-and-a-half-years behind bars having pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs – heroin and crack cocaine.
The court heard how officers stopped and searched a man in the Irwell area at 1.45pm on 23 May.
Two large packages of class A drugs, each wrapped in plastic film were seized by officers. One of these packages contained 14 individual wraps – five of crack and nine of heroin. The other package contained crack cocaine. Both packages were worth a total of around £600.
Mobile phones were also seized.
Officers then carried out a search of a property and seized scales and a blade.
Detective Sergeant Jonathan Bradbury of Staffordshire Police, said: “Hawthorne was intent on circulating these harmful drugs within our communities and has been dealt with accordingly.
“We will continue to investigate the supply and circulation of illegal drugs within our county and bring those responsible to justice.”
