Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information following a collision in Lichfield.
Just after 5.15pm on Friday (15 July) police received reports of a road traffic collision involving a blue Audi S3 and a silver Ford Focus on the A5 at Shenstone between Muckley Corner and Wall Island.
The driver of the Focus, a man in his 40s, was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital by air ambulance.
He remains in a stable but critical condition.
The driver and passenger of the Audi were uninjured.
Witnesses who may have seen the collision or the vehicles beforehand or anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage should message Staffordshire Police on Facebook, Twitter, or call 101, quoting incident number 543 of 15 July.
