A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his 70s sustained serious injuries in an assault in Burton.
Police were called at 02.26am on Monday (17 January) to a property on Calais Road following reports of violence.
The ambulance service had attended and a 72-year-old man was conveyed to hospital with serious injuries to his neck, head, face, ribs and pelvis.
His injuries are believed to be life-changing.
A 57-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder.
He remains in police custody.
Officers remain at the scene and are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard what happened to get in touch.
We also advise the community not to speculate on social media regarding this incident, while inquiries are continuing, as you may prejudice legal proceedings.
