A scene remains at an address in Cannock today (3 January) as detectives are still appealing for anyone with information about a woman’s death to come forward.
Police were called at 12:40am on Wednesday 29 December to a property on Bath Road in West Chadsmoor following concerns regarding the welfare of a woman.
Officers attended and a 39-year-old woman was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later. The woman was formally identified as Lucy Clews, aged 39, on 31 December.
A 26-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of murder on 30 December. He has since been released under investigation whilst further enquiries continue, but he remains in custody due to an unrelated matter.
A police presence and cordon remains at the house for further forensic investigations. This is expected to remain in place for the rest of this week. Increased neighbourhood patrols, to both provide reassurance and assist with evidence gathering, will be visible during this time.
The investigation is being led by the force’s Major Investigation Department and the senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Cheryl Hannan, is asking for anyone with information to come forward: “We are keen to establish Lucy’s movements over the Christmas period and the circumstances leading up to her death. I would ask any members of the public living in the area to check any smart doorbell or CCTV cameras they have for anything that looks out of place or captures Lucy’s movements. Plus, if you have any information about this incident, no matter how small or insignificant, please help us by getting in touch using any of the options below.”
