We are appealing for information following a serious collision in Stone yesterday.
We were called to the A51, Butterhill Bank just after 3.10pm on Wednesday (21 December).
Officers attended as did our colleagues at West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
On arrival, we found a white Mercedes Benz van in collision with a bridge.
The road was closed while the driver and sole occupant of the van, a man in his 40s, was treated at the scene by paramedics.
He taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
He remains a critical but stable condition in hospital.
The road was reopened at 8.30pm.
