Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a non-stop collision in Burton.
Police were initially called at 3.03am on Friday (15 October) to Station Street following reports of public order offences.
On arrival, it became apparent to officers that a vehicle had been deliberately driven at a group of people in Burton town centre, close to McDonald’s.
A man, aged 34, from the Burton area, was found with serious injuries to his legs which are believed to be life-changing.
He was conveyed to hospital by the ambulance service.
The man remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Three men were detained a short time later.
One man aged 22, another aged 21 and one aged 19, all from the Derby area, were each arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
They have all since been released on conditional police bail while inquiries continue.
Officers believe that the victim was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time and currently believe that there is no known motive for the collision.
Anyone who saw what happened or who may have dashcam footage of the area at the time is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on Facebook, Twitter, or call 101, quoting incident number 058 of 15 October.
