Man in critical condition following assault

A 38-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Stone.
Police were called to an address on Redwood Avenue in Stone at about 7.30pm on Tuesday (5 January) to reports of a teenage male trying to open van doors.
Officers attended and discovered the victim, who had sustained a serious head injury.
He was conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance, where he remains in a critical condition.
A 43-year-old man, from Stafford, was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody while inquiries continue.
There is an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.
