Detectives investigating the death of a man following an assault at HMPYOI Brinsford have today named him as John Smith, aged 26.
John was assaulted by Abdi Rehman Esa, 20, of HMPYOI Brinsford, on 5 December. He was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton and then to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with head injuries but sadly died on Sunday 6 December.
Specially-trained officers are supporting John’s family at this difficult time.Esa pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of fellow inmate John on 22 January during an appearance via video link to Stafford Crown Court.
He is due to be sentenced on 30 March 2021 at Stafford Crown Court.
