South Staffs man charged with firearms and drugs offences

A south Staffordshire man has today (Oct 11) appeared in court charged with a series of firearms and drugs offences.

Christopher Jones, aged 31, and formerly known as Ricky Bates, appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme this morning charged with possessing a shotgun without a certificate, and possessing a self-loading/pump-action smooth-bore gun (both alleged offences took place on 29 December 2015).

He also faces charges of handling stolen goods on the same date.

Detectives from Staffordshire Police's Major and Organised Crime department charged Jones, of Cheshire Grove, Perton, with conspiracy to import a firearm into the UK between 1 June 2015 and 31 December 2015; and two separate charges of acquiring, using or possessing criminal property between 7 January 2015 and 6 May 2016, and on 9 October 2018.

He also faces two further charges relating to cocaine (class-A drug): conspiracy to supply between 1 June 2015 and 31 December 2015; and possession with intent to supply on 9 October 2018; and possession with intent to supply amphetamines (class B drug) on 29 December 2015.

He is further charged with conspiracy to supply gamma-butyrolactone (class C drug); conspiracy to import/export gamma-butyrolactone; and intentionally encouraging or assisting the commission of an either way offence; all between 1 June 2015 and 31 December 2015.

Jones has been remanded in custody and will appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 9 November.
